Since launch, and on all previous side projects, we’ve used Museo Slab as our typeface of choice: it looks good on screen and decent in print. Basically, it’s solid, steady and we fell in love with it when we were young but, we’ve changed…
Because solid and steady doesn’t always get maturer hearts racing and recently we’ve had major jealousy looking at some of the prettier serif typefaces used by Manifest, Treatwell and our client Timetastic so we decided to look outside of our old relationship…
Our new typeface is f37 Bobby from f37 foundry. It’s gorgeous, it’s chunky, it’s sophisticated not to mention modern as well as classic. That old chestnut - modern and classic. We’re as bad as our clients when we have to brief ourselves 🙄
Serifs, serifs everywhere!
We’ve opted to go with this serif for headings and body copy. Yes, sometimes, it’s nicer to go with a sans-serif for body copy but we felt it worked well enough that we decided to use it everywhere!
Small change, big change
A favourite saying of ours is, small change, big change. We say this a lot to clients and Project Managers when they request, what they feel is, a small design change (to their signed-off designs) which they feel with have minimal impact… but it means that sometimes an innocuous change can have a knock-on effect whereby other elements also need to be changed too.
And that happened to us too; by changing the font we also had to tweak nearly all our font sizes. Sometimes making them bigger and sometimes smaller. We had hoped it would be a straight swap but these things rarely are.
We hope you like f37 Bobby - we certainly do.
